Building Smarter Systems: MCC Labels Industrial Network Installation

Project Overview
The Challenge and Solution
Implementing EFI Auto-Count meant more than just installing a new piece of software—it required a resilient and purpose-built infrastructure to support constant data flow across the shop floor. The production environment brought unique challenges, from operating heavy machinery to ensuring safety and uptime.
Key requirements included:
- High-speed copper cabling to each press station
- A fibre optic backbone to link remote network cabinets
- Power cabling to support sensors and controllers
- Minimal disruption to ongoing operations
All works needed to be carried out while MCC’s production lines remained active, with a strong emphasis on safety, coordination with site engineers, and adherence to strict timelines.
To deliver a stable and scalable setup for EFI Auto-Count, we deployed a complete industrial network installation across three main components:
Cat6FTP Network Installation: We installed 56 shielded Cat6FTP Excel network points, assigning four ports per press to serve PCs and printers at each end station. This allowed for direct data collection and control through the Auto-Count system.
To ensure long-term durability, especially in an industrial setting, all points were fitted with metal MK surface-mounted back boxes and faceplates. Each copper cable was professionally tested with a Fluke DSX5000, and full test reports were shared with the client.
OM4 Fibre Optic Backbone: To create fast and stable connections between MCC’s main office area and the production floor, we laid a 150-metre run of OM4 8-core fibre.
All fibre cores were fusion spliced for minimal signal loss and tested using the Fluke CertiFiber Pro. This backbone ensures that data collected from presses is transmitted without delay to central systems.
Low Voltage Power Installation: To integrate EFI Auto-Count’s data-gathering features with physical press sensors, we installed seven 1.0mm 4-core screened low voltage power cables from the DMI controllers to each press. These cables were carefully routed to connect with shaft-mounted sensors, which provide real-time input on machine activity.
MCC’s engineering team handled final terminations, allowing seamless handover between cabling and control hardware.
Safety & Delivery
One of the standout aspects of this industrial network installation was our ability to complete the work during live production hours. We coordinated closely with MCC’s site staff to maintain safe working zones, avoid interference with machinery, and keep operations running smoothly throughout the installation. Our team followed strict health and safety protocols while maintaining an efficient timeline.
Thanks to clear planning and constant communication, we completed the entire installation ahead of schedule and within budget—all without downtime for MCC.
The Result
MCC Labels Cardiff now operates with a future-proof infrastructure that supports real-time monitoring, data-driven decision-making, and system scalability. The new setup ensures that EFI Auto-Count performs to its full potential—capturing precise data directly from the presses, linking seamlessly with the production network, and helping MCC enhance productivity across the board.
From cleaner installations to reliable performance and fully tested cabling, the result reflects our commitment to quality and long-term value.
What This Industrial Network Installation Shows
This project highlights how well-executed network design and quality installation can transform industrial operations. By combining data cabling, fibre connectivity, and low voltage power into a unified infrastructure, MCC is now equipped for smarter, more efficient production.

What they said...
Sam WardI have used Twisted Pair for 2 large manufacturing facilities to provide various cabling tasks including large scale cat6 and power projects. Not only has the work been quick and met deadlines, but professional and tidy. They have been willing to work around tight production schedules and are very approachable.
I cannot recommend Twisted Pair enough.
